KUCHING, June 16: Lawas MP Dato Henry Sum Agong hoped that the new projects approved for the development of Lawas could be implemented soon.
According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) yesterday (June 15), Henry said among the new projects in the plan include the new Lawas airport and the Mara Science College (MRSM).
“I hope that a project like this can be started by the government because in terms of land use, according to the State government’s policy, if the approved land site is not used within five years, it will be withdrawn,” he told reporters when met at the Parliament Building in Kuala Lumpur.
For the record, the new airport in Lawas was scheduled to start construction in the first quarter of 2023, while the construction of the MRSM Lawas is expected to take some time after it was delayed due to the pandemic in addition to factors such as the increase in the price of building materials.
Meanwhile, Henry reiterated that there is a need to elevate Lawas into a division to overcome constraints, develop the area, and boost the local economy.
He said upgrading Lawas into a division would also provide various opportunities for the local population to improve their income. — DayakDaily
