KUCHING, June 7: Two families were forced to seek refuge in their relative’s house after a flash flood in Lawas this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) deployed a team to the site for monitoring at 2pm.

According to the Momba report, the water level at Kg Pengalih Jalan Merapok had risen one foot, while at Kg Karangan, Kg Seberang Mission, Lawas Airport, Jalan Pengiran Haji Matusin, and the traffic lights at Jalan Trusan Lawas, the water level had risen by two feet. At Kg Luagan, the water level had risen by three feet.

The water level at the affected areas is now receding and the situation as of press time is still under control. Bomba personnel also provided help to affected people in flooded areas. It is believed that the flash flood was caused by heavy rain which hit Lawas in recent days.

The Bomba monitoring operation was ended around 3.45pm. — DayakDaily
