KUCHING, Jan 4: The Projek Ikan Sangkar Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan (PNK) Lawas in Kampung Noor Islam Laut, Kuala Lawas, is expected to boost the cultivation of white shrimp and tilapia.
According to a press release issued today by the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), the above-mentioned project, which is part of RECODA’s Community@SCORE programme and involves the Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM) and PNK Lawas, employs a super-intensive tank system spread across five cages.
“The innovative approach is expected to yield a substantial one-tonne harvest every four months for each cage, enhancing productivity and promoting sustainable practices,” read the press release.
It went on to say that Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) regional director Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latip, alongside key project members Basran Sakmad and Sebastian Paul Jokin, recently conducted an onsite visit to assess the advancements and practicality of the technology employed.
“Launched in September 2023, the initiative is under the stringent management of PNK Lawas, ensuring the project’s sustainability and the quality of its output.
“The primary goal is to invigorate the local economy through innovative aquaculture while maintaining environmental and operational standards,” RECODA remarked. — DayakDaily
