KUCHING: Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police and Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Sarawak Shafie Ismail launched the 48th Community Policing unit in Kuching last night.

Shafie thanked members of the public for supporting the police in carrying out crime prevention in the neighbourhood.

He congratulated the work of Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) led by Datuk Lau Pang Heng, who strongly believed in keeping neighbourhoods safe.

“Crime prevention is everyone’s duty. Crime doesn’t just happen. It is mostly an opportunity provided by the victim seized well by the perpetrator. Be always alert anywhere and anytime. Prevention is always better than cure,” Shafie said.

He said that Kuching is much safer now as more members of the community have come forward to unite with the police to fight crime.

SCPA has more than 15,000 members in Sarawak with the majority of their members in Kuching.
