Late Tok Nan’s son Azizul Annuar, 30, is youngest GPS candidate

KUCHING, Dec 3: Azizul Annuar Adenan, the son of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, is the youngest candidate among the eight new faces from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), as well as the youngest candidate among the candidates in Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) line-up for the 12th Sarawak Election.

Azizul, 30, will be contesting in N03 Tanjung Datu, taking the baton from his mother Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu. He holds a degree in economics from Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia.


The second youngest candidate is 33-year-old Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor who will replace Simoi Peri in N28 Lingga constituency. She holds a degree in accounting from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak.

Meanwhile, PBB Supreme Council member Datuk Ibrahim Baki, 62, will be taking over Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s N08 Satok seat.

Abang Johari who is a nine-term Satok assemblyman has decided to head to N26 Gedong after the incumbent Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais announced his intention not to contest in the election.

Another new face is PBB Samarahan Youth chief Datuk Hamzah Ibrahim, 47, who will be replacing Dato Sri Mohamad Ali Mahmud in N17 Stakan after the latter decided not to seek re-election this time around.

For N21 Tebedu whose incumbent Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong announced his retirement after 25 years, the seat will be replaced by political secretary to Chief Minister Dr Simon Sinang Bada. He is 55-years-old.

PBB Kalaka branch deputy chairman Mohamad Duri, 55, will be replacing Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz to deliver the N38 Kelaka seat for GPS. He holds a degree in electrical engineering.

Prior to becoming PBB Kalaka branch deputy chairman in 2012, Mohamad was deputy youth chief from 2005 and 2010 and Information chief from 2010 to 2012.

Meanwhile, 56-year-old Lidam Assam will be contesting in N62 Katibas, taking over from eight-term incumbent Dato Sri Ambrose Blikau Enturan who has announced his retirement from politics.

Lidam, who is a political secretary to the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, holds a master’s degree from Heriot-Watt University. He was a former marketing manager for Petronas Carigali and Petronas Perdagangan and former councillor in Sibu Municipal Council.

PBB will be contesting in 47 out of 82 seats in the coming polls. Apart from Abang Johari who has shifted to Gedong, the remaining 34 incumbents will defend their seats. — DayakDaily
