KUCHING, Oct 21: Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has confirmed that it will be her last time to contest in the upcoming Sarawak Election.

Despite so, the four-term Dalat assemblywoman promised to give her best to serve the people of Sarawak especially Dalat constituency.

“I have and will still give my best to the people of Sarawak including Dalat. I will still be standing this upcoming election.

“We just have to prepare ourselves (to step down) and give way for other potential leaders,” she told DayakDaily when contacted today.

Confirming also that she had expressed her intention to Chief Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Fatimah however said that they will further discuss the matter in a more appropriate time.

“I know it is still too early to talk about it but he (Abang Johari) knows my intention. When I think about it again, I know we all have to carry our responsibilities through and through as this is the first time our Chief Minister will lead the election using the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) logo.

“Other than that, it is also the responsibility as the (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) Women chief as well as my obligation to the people of my constituency (Dalat),” Fatimah added, noting that people in Dalat have wanted her to continue serving as long as possible.

The reason she gave was that Fatimah age is catching up no matter how much she loves her job in serving the people.

“Jobs have always come first. I love my job a lot except I don’t like the politics part. I love serving the people and my roles have provided me a great platform to do so,” she emphasised.

On the potential candidates who will succeed her in the future, Fatimah said there were too many but it is for the people to decide.

Nevertheless, she hoped that she had done enough to fulfill the expectations of the people at the end of the day. — DayakDaily
