KUCHING, Nov 28: The Jalan Lachau–Kara–Punggu Jinggau route could serve as an alternative road should any untoward incident occur along the Bukit Begunan stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway.
Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang said this when debating in support of the Sarawak Budget 2026 at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today.
“However, the Lachau–Kara–Punggu Jinggau Road (R3) is winding with many sharp and dangerous bends. The road also stretches up to Sungai Besai and Selanjan Angkong, serving 35 longhouses and four primary schools.
“Therefore, I would like to propose to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) to upgrade and expand the Lachau–Kara–Punggu Jinggau Road as an alternative or bypass to the Bukit Begunan stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway,” he said.
He added that the route is not only used by cars but also by heavy trucks, lorries and trailers transporting oil palm fruits. – DayakDaily
