KWJF Jazz Band Search finalists vie to perform at festival

KUCHING, Aug 27: Four local bands will be competing this Friday for a slot to perform at the upcoming Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival (KWJF) in September.

The KWJF Jazz Band Search finals will take place on Aug 30 at 7pm, the Poolside Pavilion of the Grand Margherita Hotel, Kuching. The local jazz talents competing are Jazzanova, The Fingerprints, Sang Timur and SL2J.

ā€œThis yearā€™s talent competition is lookingĀ for creativity, originality and composition to select a winning band to perform at the upcoming Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival on SeptĀ 27-28 at the Waterfront Walkway, Grand Margherita Hotel.


ā€œThe KWJF Jazz Band Search finals is free for public admission,ā€ the organiser said in a statement.

The top four finalists and judges at the end of the preliminary round of the Jazz Band Search in July.

Organised by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), the jazz festivalĀ aimedĀ to develop and nurture local Sarawak musicians.

The third annual KWJF this year will see local Sarawak talents performing alongside an eclectic line-up of musicians and performers from around the region such as Ning Baizura (Malaysia), Harvey Malaihollo (Indonesia), Sitti Navarro (the Philippines), Dave Brewer & The DooDaddies (Australia), Dawn Wong & The Shanghai Jazz Club (Singapore) and more.

In Miri, a KWJF Jazz Roadshow will be held on Aug 31, 6.30pm,Ā at the Matahari Poolside Hut, Miri Marriott Resort & Spa.

The jazz preview show is free to the public and will feature music sessions by Sabahan duo Asif andĀ Rene,Ā as well as local Kuching jazz band Swaiv.

Lucky draw prizes will also be up for grabs for the audience.
