KUCHING, July 19: Local jazz bands and performers are invited to audition for the 2018 Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival (KWJF) at the Godown Amphitheatre here this August 18.
The Jazz Band talent search serves as an opportunity for aspiring Sarawakian bands to have a shot at performing at this year’s KWJF to be held from Sept 28-29 at the Grand Margherita Hotel Waterfront.
The winning band will get to perform alongside this year’s star-studded line-up, including multi-award winning Sarawakian songstress Dayang Nur Faizah, Blues Gang, Jolynn Chin, Tuku Kame, Singaporean Aisyah Aziz and Tompi from Indonesia, Carmen D’Souza of Portugal and The Natalie Gillispie Band of Australia.
“This in addition to winning cash prizes and tickets to the festival,” KWJF said a press statement.
The inaugural KWJF last year featured an all-star line-up of 17 acclaimed musicians and bands, including Malaysian diva Sheila Majid, Indonesian’s Kunto Aji, Abdul and the Coffee Theory, Baihana from the Philippines, Ernie Watts from the United States and Singaporean Jeremy Monteiro.
“A record of more than 4,000 festival goers enjoyed themselves at KWJF 2017, as it is a family-oriented event suitable for all ages with not only the music concerts to enjoy but also a lively bazaar with food, arts, handicrafts and other merchandise on sale,” the statement added.
The annual jazz festival is organised by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to bring another iconic event to the Kuching Waterfront as well as economic opportunities for local vendors and suppliers.
KWJF serves as a platform to nurture aspiring jazz musicians and to further promote Sarawak as a premium destination, with the city being the gateway to world-class events and festivals.
The deadline to enter the Jazz Band Search competition is this July 31. To sign up and for more information, visit www.kuchingwaterfrontjazz.com and follow Kuching Waterfront Jazz on its Facebook and Instagram page.
