KUCHING, Jan 1: The unity among Kuchingites have enabled Sarawak to move into the recovery phase faster than most States as it gradually resumes pre-Covid-19 economic stability and vibrancy.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said Sarawakians had had their share of a challenging year in 2021, which saw the emergence of new variants of concerns such as Delta and Omicron, making the war against Covid-19 more challenging than ever.
He explained that businesses were severely and negatively affected due to the pandemic, forcing many to conduct their business digitally or risk failing.
Additionally, the ways people conduct their daily affairs were redefined ― communication with family and friends, workplaces, schools, businesses and frontline services were forced to adapt to the new norms.
“Having said that, Kuchingites had bravely embraced and persevered through all the challenges. We were united in dispensing our duties diligently.
“We successfully implemented the Covid-19 vaccination programme, and the State government was generous in announcing various stimulus packages to save Sarawak’s economy,” he said in a statement today.
Wee further said that government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) alike organised programmes to support those in need.
“Collaborations at this scale is almost unprecedented, and it demonstrates how united and generous Kuchingites and Sarawakians are.
“Once again, I would like to thank you for your consistent support, and l shall work harder than ever in ensuring the City’s growth and progress,” he emphasised. ― DayakDaily
