KUCHING, July 8: This year’s Kuching Zumba Fiesta 2025 is set to make history, with organisers aiming to gather 10,000 participants in a bid to break two Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) titles, the Largest Participation in a Zumba Event and the Largest Participation in a Glow-in-the-Dark Zumba Event.

Now in its 10th edition, the highly anticipated mass workout event returns as part of the Kuching Festival Food Fair 2025 and will take place on Saturday, Aug 2, at the Sarawak Hockey Stadium, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said this year’s event promises to be electrifying and record-worthy as the organiser is investing in cutting-edge equipment and an upgraded setup to enhance the participant experience.

“We will be using a powerful sound system to deliver booming music across the entire stadium, ensuring that every beat, rhythm and cue can be heard clearly, no matter where you are.

“In addition, a massive high-definition LED screen will be installed to ensure everyone can easily follow the choreography, even from the back of the crowd, allowing for full visibility and total immersion in the Zumba routines.

“These enhancements are designed to elevate the entire experience and help Kuching celebrate the fusion of health, music, and technology on a grand scale,” he said during a press conference at MBKS Headquarters today.

Wee expressed confidence that Kuching can rise to the challenge and surpass the current record number with its vibrant energy, creativity, and strong community spirit.

“Our target this year is 10,000 participants. Last year’s event recorded about 4,000 due to a venue change as the stadium was being used for the Sukma Games. However, in earlier years, we’ve seen even higher turnout,” he noted.

Currently, the Malaysia Book of Records entry for the Largest Participation in a Zumba Event is held by the Penang Women’s Development Corporation, which attracted 9,500 participants during their 2023 International Women’s Day celebration.

Meanwhile, the record for the Largest Participation in a Glow-in-the-Dark Zumba Event was set in 2016 by Sunway Lagoon and Watson’s Personal Care Stores Sdn Bhd, with 5,360 participants at Sunway Surf Beach.

Wee also highlighted the significance of this year’s event, which marks a decade of Zumba in Kuching, a community initiative that began in 2015 and has since grown into a proud symbol of the city’s commitment to fitness, inclusivity, and fun.

To add to the excitement, a lucky draw with attractive prizes will be held during the event.

At its core, Kuching Zumba Fiesta supports Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, emphasising the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.

“The Kuching Zumba Fiesta is more than just a dance workout. It’s a platform for people to improve their physical and mental health, build friendships, and boost self-confidence. It’s where strangers become friends, families sweat together, and the community truly comes alive,” he said.

Participation is completely free, and MBKS is calling on everyone to register now via the iPeople app.

“Whether you’re a beginner or a Zumba veteran, this is your chance to be part of a historic moment while having an amazing time.

“Over the past decade, we’ve built something special. The Kuching Zumba Fiesta is not just about breaking records, it’s about bringing people together, promoting wellness, and strengthening our community bonds.

“Let us come together once again to celebrate health, unity, and harmony under the stars while glowing, dancing, and making history. Kuching, let’s shake it up and show Malaysia what we’re made of,” he urged.
