KUCHING, April 4: The Kuching Water Board (KWB) has been urged to take serious action to address the leaking water pipe at the junction of Jalan Highfield Light Industrial and Jalan Batu Kawa here.
In a statement issued today, Michael Kong Feng Nian, who is the special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) Chong Chieng Jen, claimed that complaints have been received since February with no action taken despite the issue being repeatedly reported.
Kong said water is a precious resource, and at a time when the KWB is trying to raise revenue by charging commercial rates on residential titled shop lots, such wastage should not be condoned.
“Non-revenue water (NRW) continues to be a significant financial drain for Sarawak. Every litre lost through unchecked leakage is money lost. These are monies that could have been used to improve infrastructure, supply consistency, and rural water access.
“I urge the KWB to take immediate and serious action to address the leak at Jalan Highfield Light Industrial and Jalan Batu Kawa junction. The longer it is left unresolved, the more water and public confidence we lose,” he said. — DayakDaily
