KUCHING, Aug 16: Kuching, Sri Aman, and Samarahan were among the 12 districts issued with thunderstorm alerts until 6pm today.
Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in an advisory notice issued at 3pm today, said other districts affected are Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Pakan, Julau, Sibu, Kanowit, Kapit, and Song.

The department also said anticipated weather conditions include heavy rain and strong winds.
“A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with rain intensity greater than 20mm per hour that is approaching or expected to last for more than an hour.
“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a maximum of six hours per issuance,” it added. — DayakDaily
