Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Beluru and Kanowit together notch up 1,400 infections

KUCHING, Jan 22: Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Beluru and Kanowit remained in the high-risk red zone of Covid-19 pandemic spread with 194 local cases added today, pushing the total cases in the five districts to 1,400 in the past 14 days.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas informed that Sebauh and Dalat also maintained its orange status with 50 local cases reported in the past 14 days.


Serian, Daro, Subis, Belaga, Betong, Meradong, Julau, Kapit, Simunjan, Asajaya, Selangau, Samarahan, Simanggang, Bukit Mabong, Bintulu and Limbang are still under yellow zone status with total of 99 local cases reported in the past 14 days.

Only 15 districts in Sarawak namely Lawas, Lundu, Bau, Tanjung Manis, Tebedu, Mukah, Matu, Saratok, Pusa, Kabong, Tatau, Daro, Song, Marudi and Telang Usan still remain in the safe green zone.

Meanwhile, Sarawak reported two Covid-19 fatalities in Sibu and Miri; and 229 new Covid-19 cases today (Jan 22), with Sibu recording the highest number of cases at 168 followed by Miri (28), Kuching (9), seven each in Kanowit, Simanggang, and Lubok Antu while Subi s (2) and Bintulu (1).

As such, the state tally of positive cases has now been pushed up to 2,931. — DayakDaily
