KUCHING, Sept 29: Three imported Covid-19 cases were reported in Kuching today, thus raising the state’s tally of positive cases to 709.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, revealed that Case 707 involved a local woman who worked as a nurse in a hospital in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and had returned to Sarawak on Sept 25 after transiting from Kuala Lumpur.
At Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), she had been screened for Covid-19 for which the test result was negative, before continuing her journey to Kuching.
Upon arrival at Kuching International Airport (KIA), the case was sent to a hotel to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine where she was swabbed on the second day (Sept 27). The result returned positive on Sept 28.
She did not show any symptoms of sickness and is now isolated and being treated at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Cases 708 and 709 are a married Myanmar couple who had just returned from their holiday in their home country on Feb 25.
Case 708, who is the wife of Case 709, has been a lecturer at a university in Sarawak since 2012.
The couple had flown into KL from Yangon, Myanmar on Sept 12.
Upon arrival, they were sent to a hotel for quarantine. They had been screened for Covid-19 twice on Sept 12 and 21 and their results had returned negative. The couple completed their quarantine on Sept 25.
On Sept 26, the couple continued their journey to Kuching and upon arrival at KIA, were admitted to a hotel for quarantine as they did not fulfill the 30-day period in Malaysia before entering Sarawak.
On the next day, the cases underwent the rT-PCR test and their results returned positive on Sept 29. They were asymptomatic and now being isolated and treated in SGH.
With these three patients admitted to SGH, SDMC reported that there is a total of eight Covid-19 patients receiving treatment in hospitals in the state currently, with three in Miri Hospital and one in Bintulu Hospital.
Meanwhile, the case screened in Sandakan, Sabah which was detected in Sarawak and being treated in Bintulu Hospital has recovered and was discharged today.
SDMC disclosed that there are no more active clusters in Sarawak as the Alam Cluster in Bintulu has officially ended.
Lawas with three local cases and Kuching with one local case are currently the only two districts in Sarawak which are Covid-19 yellow zones.
There were also no recoveries and discharges reported today and as such, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak stands at 682 or 96.19 per cent of total positive cases so far.
Sarawak also recorded 11 more Persons-Under-Investigation (PUI) with one case pending laboratory test results.
