KUCHING, Feb 23: Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) has taken decisive action by disconnecting the electricity supply to seven business premises across the city suspected of hosting online gambling activities.

IPD Kuching police chief ACP Ashmon Bajah revealed that this measure was taken due to suspicions of these premises serving as centers for illegal online gambling operations.

In collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad, the operation was a joint effort aimed at cracking down on illicit gambling activities in the area.

He stressed that the decision to cut off electricity is in accordance with the authority vested under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (Act 289).

Ashmon further noted that premises subjected to power disruption will not have their power restored until they obtain written permission from the Chief District Police. — DayakDaily
