Kuching police nab three suspects after dramatic 10km car chase

KUCHING, April 2: A dramatic chase along city streets this afternoon began when police attempted to stop a suspicious-looking blue vehicle at a roadblock along Jalan Central Timur.

Police personnel manning the Movement Control Order (MCO) road block had indicated at the vehicle to stop for a check. Instead, the driver sped off.

According to Kuching police district chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani, police immediately called for backup and set off in pursuit.


“The chase continued until Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub when extra police backup arrived and tried to stop the vehicle, but the suspects continued to outrun the police, even attempting to smash the patrol cars,” Awang Din revealed in a statement.

The chase continued until Jalan Depo Petra Jaya, where three backup vehicles managed to block the road ahead, prompting the blue vehicle to stop.

Unwilling to surrender, three male suspects then exited the car and attempted to flee, with one of them throwing something onto the ground.

“Police eventually arrested all the suspects aged between 25 and 33. They also found the bag thrown by a suspect, containing four packets of a crystalline substance, believed to be drugs,” he added.

The authorities also discovered a mask and a fake gun.

Awang Din confirmed that all three suspects have past criminal records for drug and theft offenses.

The incident which occurred at 1.10pm stunned motorists, with some recording videos of the aftermath which have been widely shared via WhatsApp. — DayakDaily
