KUCHING, Oct 16: The Kuching City Parking Systems (KCPS), which manages public parking across the Kuching South and North city areas and operates the BorneoParkKCH mobile app, will permanently cease operations by the end of October 2025.
This follows an announcement by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who confirmed that the Sarawak government has approved a new concession to implement a smart parking system in Kuching, scheduled to commence on Nov 1, 2025.
In a notice on its website, KCPS stated that its parking system will stop functioning after October and that credit top-up services on the BorneoParkKCH app have already been disabled.
Regarding unused credit balances, users may obtain cash refunds directly from KCPS instead of transferring their balances to the new parking system operator.
Refunds can be claimed from Oct 20 to Nov 15, 2025 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm) at the KCPS office located at Lot 9687, Ground, 1st & 3rd Floor, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim.

Wee, in a social media post today, said MBKS has instructed KCPS to issue refunds to the public following the cessation of BorneoParkKCH operations.
Earlier, he had shared that the new smart parking system, approved by the Sarawak government in September, will integrate both council-managed and commercial parking spaces under a single mobile application. The platform will allow users to pay and extend sessions via smartphone or QR code, while providing real-time parking availability updates.
The upcoming system will also feature License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology for live monitoring, enhancing transparency, enforcement, and compliance, similar to systems already in use at major shopping malls.
A two-month pilot run of the new system will begin on Nov 1, 2025, before its official launch on Jan 1, 2026.
Meanwhile, MBKS assured that existing parking coupons will remain valid until Oct 31, 2025, during the transition period.
Wee also encouraged motorists to settle any outstanding parking compounds as MBKS is currently offering a 50 per cent discount on fines until Nov 30, 2025. — DayakDaily
