Kuching man pleads not guilty to illegal possession of 192 turtle eggs

KUCHING, Nov 14: A 44-year-old man pleaded not guilty to a charge of illegally possessing 192 turtle eggs without the permission of the wildlife controller in July this year.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge framed under Section 29(1) of the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1988, punishable under Section 29(1)(c) of the same Ordinance, which carries imprisonment of two years and a fine of RM25,000.

Sessions Court Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd @ Mohd Yusoff allowed the accused to be released on a bail of RM10,000 with one local surety. Case management is fixed for Dec 12, 2022.

The accused allegedly committed the offence at a convenience store in Jalan Semariang at 7.04pm on July 20, 2022, where Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) officers raided the premises.

SFC prosecuting officers Mohamad Fuad Ahmad and Sharifah Shazzea Wan Akil prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
