KUCHING, April 16: The long-awaited Kuching Festival may be held up to a week longer than previous years to prevent overcrowding, says Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

He said the organising committee is considering this to spread out the number of visitors across the period, but the decision has yet to be finalised.

“This is still in discussion because we also have to consider extra expenses and resources such as staff members if we extend the festival for several days.

“There will be another meeting next week to discuss other matters such as setting up food delivery pickup points to encourage takeaways,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.

Wee also noted that the next committee meeting would decide the date of registration for stalls during the festival.

He said despite the full re-opening of the economy, public safety and health remain the council’s priority.

“As the mayor, I think we should continue to emphasise on public safety. We still need to maintain the necessary standard operating procedures (SOPs) even in the new norm,” he said. — DayakDaily
