Kuching breathes easier as API drops to 91; Serian, Samarahan remain unhealthy as of 5pm (Aug 16)

KUCHING, Aug 16: The Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in Kuching improved to 91, placing it in the moderate category as of 5pm today

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), this leaves Serian and Samarahan as the remaining areas in the State with unhealthy API readings of 157 and 147, respectively.

Kuching joins ten other areas that recorded moderate API readings, which are Sri Aman (83), Miri and Samalaju (78), Sarikei (76), ILP Miri (74), Bintulu (70), Limbang (66), Sibu (65), Mukah (59), and Kapit (53).

It was also reported that schools in the Serian area will reopen tomorrow (Aug 17) after being directed to close temporarily on Aug 12 because the API reading in the area exceeded 200 amid worsening haze conditions. — DayakDaily
