KUCHING, Aug 16: All 107 schools under the supervision of the Serian District Education Office (PPD) will resume normal operations tomorrow (Aug 17).
In a statement, the Sarawak Education Department (JPN) said this followed the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) reading as of 1pm today.
The department reminded schools to comply with the stipulated standard operating procedures (SOPs) and refer to the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) guidelines on managing students’ health and safety during haze conditions.
Additionally, all educational institutions under the supervision of JPN Sarawak have been advised to continuously monitor the latest API readings in their respective areas via the official APIMS portal.
Educational institutions must also comply with guidelines on conducting outdoor activities during hot weather and take into account recommendations from the Ministry of Health (MOH) to ensure the health and safety of students and the entire education community are safeguarded at all times.
JPN Sarawak stressed that any changes or latest developments concerning school operations will be announced from time to time.
As of 3pm, Serian’s API reading stood at 159, remaining in the unhealthy category but showing a slight improvement from 160 recorded at 1pm.
On Wednesday (Aug 12), 107 schools in the Serian Division have been temporarily closed after the API reading in the area exceeded 200 amid worsening haze conditions. — DayakDaily
