Kuching and Serian register triple-digit cases again as Sarawak’s daily infections rise to 725 with 3 deaths

KUCHING, Aug 14: Kuching and Serian registered triple-digit Covid-19 cases, contributing 463 cases or 63.86 per cent of 725 total cases in Sarawak today.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching reported 358 cases, followed by Serian (105), Samarahan (63), Bau (45), Sibu (25), Bintulu (19), Simunjan (19), Tatau (16), Kabong (14), Tebedu (13), Sri Aman (11), Lundu (8), Miri (6), Asajaya (4), Betong (4), Mukah (2), Kapit (2), Pusa (2), Selangau (2), Sarikei (1), Kanowit (1), Dalat (1), Saratok (1), Beluru (1), Song (1) and Julau (1).

With this, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 86,043.

SDMC also revealed that of the total cases reported today, 357 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases where 42 were symptomatic.

Another 165 cases involved individuals linked to active clusters where five of them were symptomatic.

Additionally, 118 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, 89 from screening of symptomatic individuals, and three Import A cases involving individuals returning from Cameroon.

On the clinical categories, SDMC mentioned that 580 cases were in Category 1 whereby the patients do not develop any symptoms, while there were 143 cases with mild symptoms in Category 2.

There was also one case with lung infection in Category 3 and one Category 5 case involving a patient with lung infection that required ventilator.

At the same time, the State recorded three new fatalities involving individuals aged between 49 to 87, bringing the State’s death toll to 482. All of the deceased had comorbidities.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 746 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 77,336 or 89.88 per cent. — DayakDaily
