Kuching again notches more than 200 Covid-19 cases in a day, Sarawak sees 703 overall

KUCHING, June 1: Kuching breached the 200-case mark again as Sarawak recorded 703 new Covid-19 cases in 32 districts and six fatalities to push the state tally of positive cases to 48,032 and death toll to 300.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today, revealed that 458 cases or 65.15 per cent of the total number of cases were identified in Kuching, Bintulu and Miri.

Kuching once again topped the list of daily infections with 218 cases followed by Bintulu (142), Miri (98), Sibu (40), Marudi (31), Kapit (31), Samarahan (16), Beluru (13), Serian (12), Betong (10), Bukit Mabong, Subis and Sarikei (8 each), Tatau, Sri Aman and Meradong (7 each), Selangau and Lubok Antu (6 each), Tanjung Manis (5), Matu, Pakan and Lawas (4 each), Kabong, Sebauh and Mukah (3 each), Kanowit and Limbang (2 each), while Asajaya, Song, Dalat and Simunjan registered one case each.


Of the 703 cases, SDMC disclosed that 93 were symptomatic while 539 cases comprised those who have been moved into quarantine.

A total of 469 cases were detected from individual screenings of contacts to positive cases, 117 cases were from other screenings in healthcare facilities, 64 cases were from symptomatic screenings and six were domestic import cases.

Sarawak also reported 362 recoveries to increase the number of positive cases recovered and discharged as of today to 39,324 or 81.87 per cent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

There are still 8,201 active cases still receiving treatment and being isolated in hospitals and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) across the State.

With one new cluster confirmed today dubbed the Jalan Haji Lampam Cluster in Miri with 22 cases and three clusters namely Pondok in Belaga, Jalan Sebauh-Bintulu in Sebauh and Batu 25 in Bintulu officially ended, there are still 80 active clusters in Sarawak, out of which nine clusters recorded a total of 80 new cases.

Marudi and Kabong districts have today been classified as Covid-19 orange zones from yellow zones after registering 38 and 23 local cases respectively for the past two weeks.

The Covid-19 status of Saratok District was also revised to orange from red zone after recording 40 cases in the last 14 days.

This thus increased the number of Covid-19 orange zone districts to six, while 27 districts remained as red zones, six as yellow zones and only Telang Usan as a green zone. — DayakDaily
