MIRI, March 23: As of 1pm today, 21 hectares of land have been destroyed in a peat fire incident in Kuala Baram.

According to a Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson, firefighters carried out total flooding in the affected area to prevent the spread of the peat fire.

This strategic approach involved saturating the area with water to extinguish any remaining embers and prevent the fire from reigniting.

By implementing total flooding, firefighters were able to effectively contain the fire and minimize the risk of it spreading to nearby areas.

The peat fire broke out between Permyjaya and Woodman Kuala Baram Estate, approximately 3km from Desa Indah Permyjaya.

Firefighters are currently at the scene, battling the blaze to contain and extinguish it.

They were assisted by voluntary firefighting teams from Naim Group of Companies (Naim) and Woodman to ensure the safety of nearby residents and to prevent the fire from spreading further. — DayakDaily
