MIRI, Aug 26: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is set to engage with the Ministry of Finance to address issues surrounding the accessibility of diesel and petrol for Brunei vehicles in Sarawak, particularly in Miri.
KPDN Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said, that the ministry is committed to refining its policies by analysing data concerning petrol stations supplying RON97 in Sarawak.
This effort comes in response to a recent viral social media post in which a Brunei convoy reported difficulties in obtaining diesel.
“There seems to be a misunderstanding among petrol station operators regarding the diesel fuel policy. Specifically, within a 30km radius of the Brunei-Malaysia border, diesel sales are capped at 20 litres. However, beyond this radius, there are no restrictions on diesel sales, provided the fuel is used within Sarawak,” explained Armizan.
Armizan was speaking to local media in Miri today at a press conference.
The minister emphasised that there should be no issues concerning diesel sales to vehicles from Brunei throughout Sarawak.
Additionally, Armizan mentioned that the ministry will conduct a study on a proposal to allow Brunei vehicles to purchase RON95 in Sarawak.
“The ministry will engage further with the Ministry of Finance to refine this proposal. We will take into account factors such as petrol stations supplying RON97 in Sarawak, particularly in Miri, and areas frequented by visitors and tourists from Brunei,” said Armizan.
Also present at today’s press conference was Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man, and Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, who is also the Pujut assemblyman. — DayakDaily
