KUCHING, March 2: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, has tasked the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to produce a report on the occurrence of flash floods in Kota Sentosa.

In a statement issued today, Yap stated that he has requested a postmortem from both the council and the department to identify the causes of the flash flooding, which has happened twice this year in a particular part of Kota Sentosa, 7th Mile, where it had never occurred before.

“The postmortem is essential so that appropriate measures can be taken by the authorities to mitigate the flash flooding issue,” he said.

On the same note, Yap said he has also requested for MPP to appeal to Trienekens to deploy RoRo (roll-on, roll-off) bins in the affected area.

“I am aware and understand the inconvenience, financial losses and disruption the flash flooding may have caused, and will make every effort find out the cause of the problem.

“I will also ensure that the appropriate action is taken by DID and MPP to prevent the occurrence of flash flooding in this area,” he added.

Earlier today, Yap together with Penghulu Lai Boon Khee and Kapitan Lee Tho Fung went to the ground at Kota Sentosa Commercial area to meet shop owners and business operators affected by the flash floods. — DayakDaily
