KUCHING, May 8: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called for immediate repairs and upgrades to the public toilets at the Seven Mile Market here following a site inspection today, as part of efforts to enhance basic infrastructure and improve hygiene for market users.

According to a press release, Yap was accompanied by officers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), along with community leaders Penghulu Lai Boon Khee and Kapitan Lee Tho Fung, during the inspection, which was conducted to assess the scope of works and prepare a detailed bill of quantities for the proposed upgrades.

“The condition of public toilets reflects our commitment to the people’s welfare. Instead of engaging in blame, we are taking action to solve the problem efficiently,” Yap said, noting the urgent need to address longstanding complaints regarding the facility’s cleanliness and functionality.

Throughout the inspection, Yap engaged directly with market patrons and hawker stall operators to hear their concerns and feedback.

He assured them that the necessary upgrades would be carried out as soon as possible and reaffirmed his dedication to hands-on, people-focused leadership.

Local traders and visitors expressed appreciation for Yap’s proactive approach and welcomed the initiative to improve the market’s facilities.

Lai and Lee also voiced support for the move, praising Yap’s collaborative and solution-driven efforts to address community needs.

Officers from MPP pledged to prioritise the project and ensure that the upgrades are implemented effectively to benefit the local community.

The toilet inspection and planned repairs are part of broader infrastructure enhancement works at the Kota Sentosa Seven Mile Market.

The market had previously undergone redevelopment in 2023 under Yap’s RM400,000 allocation through the 2022 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP). — DayakDaily
