KUCHING, May 26: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap conducted an on-site inspection recently as part of efforts to enhance public safety through improved street lighting under an additional RM200,000 allocation from the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).
Joined by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) councillors Liaw and Chen, and Sarawak Energy officer Dosef, the purpose of the visit was to identify key locations for the installation of new streetlights.
“This latest funding supplements Yap’s earlier RM1 million allocation for street lighting across the constituency, further demonstrating his proactive and results-driven approach to addressing community needs,” said a press release.
During the inspection, the team visited several high-traffic and residential areas, including Jalan Sungai Tapang, Jalan Semaba, and various locations in Seven Mile, to assess lighting requirements and prioritise installations that will most effectively enhance public safety.
The press release added that Yap personally assessed the proposed sites to ensure that new streetlights will be strategically placed where they are most needed, underscoring his commitment to delivering practical, on-the-ground solutions rather than empty promises.
“Safety and security are non-negotiable. Well-lit streets deter crime, prevent accidents, and offer peace of mind, especially for families moving around at night. That’s why I’m making sure every ringgit allocated is used effectively to brighten our neighbourhoods,” he said.
Yap emphasised that this initiative is part of his broader vision for a safer, more vibrant Kota Sentosa. He also welcomed feedback from residents on areas that may require additional lighting, reinforcing his open-door policy and commitment to inclusive, community-focused governance.
With this additional funding, Yap and his team, working closely with Sarawak Energy, aim to expedite the implementation process to ensure timely installation. — DayakDaily
