Kota Samarahan seeing increase in meter, cable and crop theft

KUCHING, May 13: Police cases involving meter, cable and crop theft are showing an increasing trend in Kota Samarahan.

According to Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Sudirman Kram, from January until April this year, the police received a total of 56 reports involving the three crimes, compared to only 46 cases over the corresponding period last year.

“This shows an increase of 21.74 per cent,” he told reporters during a press conference after the ‘Meet and Greet’ programme held at Farley Supermarket in Kota Samarahan, yesterday.

Sudirman said however, other crime cases such as house break-ins have decline by 33 per cent compare to last year.

He added in April last year, a total of 27 house break-in cases were reported while only 18 cases were recorded this year

“This is an indicator that crime in Kota Samarahan is under control,” he said.

Earlier, during the meet-and-greet programme, Sudirman handed out police crime prevention brochures to members of the public who were doing their shopping at Farley Supermarket. — DayakDaily
