KOTA SAMARAHAN, April 27: Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Rubiah Wang has distributed the ‘Bantuan Wang Ehsan Bencana Banjir’ (flood disaster compassionate fund) to 217 heads of households on Tuesday at the Kota Samarahan Civic Centre.
According to a report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Rubiah explained that the RM108,500 assistance was for flood victims in late 2020 and early 2021.
“This aid is being distributed to victims who have relocated to evacuation centres designated by the year 2021.
“Although we must wait for this allocation, once received, we will continue to distribute to help flood victims bear the burden of their losses,” she said.
She stated this at a press conference following the ‘wang ehsan’ (compassionate fund) distribution ceremony.
Rubiah also stated that her party is continuing to work on several projects to address the flood problem in Kota Samarahan.
“Our efforts include the implementation of the Sarawak River Basin Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) Project worth RM129 million as informed by the Minister of Environment and Water Dato Sri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in the Dewan Rakyat last year.
“The project entails the construction of water reservoir lakes in Taman Samarindah and Jalan Muara Tuang as a means of controlling the overflow of rainwater that floods residential areas,” Rubiah added.
Meanwhile, she informed that irrigation routes from Taman Univista will be created through the construction of underground sewers across the Samarahan Expressway using a new method that will not disrupt traffic flow in Samarahan. — DayakDaily
