KUCHING, Oct 27: Pakatan Harapan (PH) including its component party Democratic Action Party (DAP) has been fighting at the forefront for the “Malaysian Malaysia” dream including moving away from race-based politics, says Michael Kong in countering Lo Khere Chiang’s call for people not to vote for DAP.

As such, Kong, who is special assistant to DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, finds the Batu Kitang assemblyman’s argument in calling people not to vote for DAP “totally illogical”.

“The point of voting for a particular party is because of the principles and values that they subscribe to and not because the party lacks the number of representation in Parliament.

“In DAP and the grand coalition of PH, we have a party which promotes institutional reforms, anti-corruption, female empowerment and multiculturalism,” he said in a statement today.

This is the Malaysia that Malaysians want and not the one that promotes racial-based politics in which Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) advocate, he alleged.

“Not only do we want to move away from race-based politics, we also want to take this opportunity to stop the corrupted from coming back into power,” he added.

Referring to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah’s statement that “GPS will work with anyone to form the Federal government except PH and DAP“, Kong questioned if people really want corruption-plagued Umno leaders to come back and plunder the taxpayers’ hard-earned money.

“As such, it is all the more important for all Malaysians, particularly Sarawakians and Sabahans, to vote for a party that really fights for the Malaysia that we want.

“In a secular country like Malaysia, we need multi-racial parties and forward thinking parties to push for reforms and meritocracy and PH is the only coalition that is committed to advance this,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
