KUCHING, March 5: Kuala Lumpur lad Sherwin Chew was crowned the “Drift King” during the Borneo Star Drift Battle at La Promenade Mall here today.
He earned the top spot after his drifting performance in a Toyota Trueno managed to beat Sibu-born Stanley Wong’s Daihatsu Charmant in a one-to-one dance on the drift track.
In third and fourth places were Kuching drifters, namely Benny Chin with a BMW E46 and Zen with a BMW E30 respectively.
Presenting the prizes to the winners of the Pro-Am category was head judge Jason Lim.
Meanwhile, Ling Tung Hui from Miri was the champion in the Novice category. He drove a Nissan 200SX 2JZ.
In second place was Yu Zhe with a Nissan Cefiro A31, followed by Emmanuel with a Toyota KE70 in third place and Willie Ong with a Nissan 180SX in fourth place. All three drivers are from Kuching.
The event also witnessed Stanley winning the Top Qualifying Award, while Benny won the Best Tandem Award, Kuching’s Fish Lee won Best Bunga/Style Award, Miri’s Johnny Yong won the Best Initiate Award and Miri’s Kong Shan Nyan won the Best Smoke Award.
Borneo Star Drift Battle which was held on March 4 and 5 was hosted by FL Motorsport in collaboration with HSL’s La Promenade Mall.
The judges for the event were national drifters Jason Lim, Mohd Zaiham Hamdan@Bullzai, Gui Foo Sing and Fazreen Ismail.
