King Wei refutes Chong over allegations former is Dr Sim’s counsel

KUCHING, Jan 31: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei denies that he is a legal counsel for Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian in a lawsuit filed against Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

Wong in a press statement today, said Chong has on many occasions attacked and termed him as a traitor since the former resigned from DAP last July, to which Wong has not been replying to all of the accusations.

“Today, again in his (Chong) Facebook live, he attacked me by using twisted facts or half-truths. I am not a counsel for Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian who sued Chong. Sim never approached me nor appointed me as his counsel. Chong’s statement saying I am Sim’s lawyer is untrue.

“I am a counsel for senior counsel Shankar Ram, who was cited for contempt of court in discharging his duty as Sim’s counsel,” he said.

Wong noted apart from himself, there are other lawyers who came in as Shankar’s counsel, because it also concerns them as lawyers when a lawyer is cited for contempt in discharging his duty in court.

“Even Advocates Association of Sarawak had interfered by holding a watching brief on Shankar’s contempt case,” he added.

At the same time, Wong also asserted that Chong, in his Facebook live today, deliberately concealed the actual fact of why Shankar was cited for contempt and merely mentioned that it is “due to certain reasons” that Shankar was cited for contempt.

In fact, Wong explained, Shankar was cited for contempt because he was late in submitting documents to the Court, and what Chong didn’t disclose is that he and his counsel Michael Kong is also equally guilty of delay in late submission of certain documents.

“Further in his Facebook live, alleging me of “willfully going against him” and thus he has wrongfully believed in me. This is twisting as well. By representing Shankar, I am assisting Shankar to clear his name and the charge of contempt of Court,” he said.

Wong also emphasised that his opponent was never Chong, as it was not him who complained against Shankar’s delay, because Chong himself has also delayed in submitting documents.

“It was the Court on its own motion prosecuted and found Shankar (guilty) for contempt of court. I am deeply disappointed with Chong’s conduct in continuously attacking with twisted facts and without proper justification.

“I hope he will stop to smear me and concentrate on his work, because smearing me will not help him in gaining more support from his voters,” he said. — DayakDaily
