KUCHING, Feb 13: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has expressed interest in taking a road trip through Sabah and Sarawak along the Pan Borneo Highway and meeting the locals once the project has been completed.

The King was also pleased with the development of the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah and Sarawak, which began in 2015 and is expected to be completed by 2024.

“I am very happy with the implementation performance of phase one of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah and Sarawak, which began in 2015 and is supposed to be fully completed by 2024.

“It is my dream to drive along the Pan Borneo Highway, especially to get to know my people in the interior of Bumi Kenyalang (Sarawak) and Negeri di Bawah Bayu (Sabah),” His Majesty said when opening the 15th Parliament in Kuala Lumpur today.

In addition, the King mentioned that the Istana Negara, the federal government, and the state governments of Sabah and Sarawak are currently planning the road trip.

Earlier in Jan 2023, Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that the 786-kilometre Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway, which stands at 91 per cent completion as of Dec 2022, will be fully completed in the third quarter of 2023. — DayakDaily
