KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has decided to declare a state of emergency in Batu-Sapi, Sabah.
As a result, the Batu-Sapi by-election which is scheduled to be held on December 5 has been postponed to a new date.
The declaration of an emergency by His Majesty was agreed upon following a meeting with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.
According to Istana Negara, the decision by Al-Sultan Abdullah to declare an emergency in Batu Sapi was to prevent the occurrence of the fourth wave of Covid-19 infection in the country.
The Palace noted the 16 th Sabah State Election which was held last September has contributed to the third wave of the Covid-19 infection in the country.
Hence, it said the His Majesty is concerned with the safety of the people following the emergence of new clusters and positive cases of Covid-19.
It added His Majesty also advises the people to have discipline and play a proactive role in assisting the government to curb the Covid-19 pandemic. —DayakDaily
