SIBU, May 5: Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu chapter will celebrate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8 with a series of activities.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Be Human Kind, Believe in the Power of Kindness”

The chapter in a statement today said the theme was chosen as over these past months and years there have been multiple crises which have spared no one and have hit the most vulnerable people the hardest, from Covid-19 to the climate crisis, humanitarian emergencies and escalating conflicts.

“But despite this, there is so much hope and humanity to be found in the form of acts of kindness,” it added.

It said that acts of kindness no matter how big or small, make a huge difference in people’s lives.

“We believe that acts of kindness have the power to spark a ripple effect, to multiply, to spread across communities, countries and the whole world,” the chapter continued.

In line with this, MRCS Sibu has planned several activities.

These include its World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day Celebration-cum-cake-cutting ceremony on May 8,

During this ceremony, MRCS Sibu will be recognising 21 volunteers and staff who have performed distinguished service for the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme at Hospital Sibu from May 2021 till December 2021.

Other planned activities include a Red Cross Baby adoption programme, blood donation campaign, junior colouring contest prize presentation, cadet quiz and poster competition prize presentation. — DayakDaily
