KUCHING, April 25: The upgrading of the road from Kampung Kupang to Jalan Bajau junction will begin in October 2022, says Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju.
He said the project with an estimated cost of RM90 million is under the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) and Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) is the implementing agency.
“The project will upgrade the existing gravel road with a total length of 16.9 kilometers (km) to a tarred road.
“It includes the feeder road to villages and schools with a length of 3.6km (Rh Ganing, Rh Rengan, Rh Lakon, Rh Anau and SK Sg Entebu) and replacing three small bridges,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Ali who is also Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources also revealed that the project tender is expected to start in July before the construction work is scheduled to begin three months later.
Upon completion, the road project will not only benefit the residents but also smallholders in the vicinity.
“It is hoped that this project can be implemented as soon as possible, as this will facilitate and shorten the travel distance from Kupang to Saratok because this project has been awaited for by the locals for so long.
“We will always monitor and liaise with the Sarawak JKR to ensure that this project is implemented smoothly and can be completed within the stipulated time,” he added. — DayakDaily
