24 events lined up for Miri May Fest 2022 to commemorate Miri achieving city status

KUCHING, April 25: Twenty-four events have been lined up for Miri May Fest 2022 to promote Miri as a tourist destination.

Miri City Council (MCC) mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang in a statement today said it is also to create an opportunity for Mirians to be involved and participate in the festival which is usually held in the month of May every year to commemorate Miri achieving city status on May 20, 2005.

“The events will be organised by various organisations, including the 17th Anniversary Miri City Day Celebration and Traditional Costume Parade on May 20 and 22, respectively,” he said.


Events lined up for Miri May Fest 2022 are monthly programmes on the first Friday of the month in Tamu Keadayan (May 6), a health and hygiene awareness programme in Sekolah Menengah Riam (May 7), Dayak Song Karaoke competition at Boulevard Shopping Mall (May 8-14), Diving Jamboree at Miri Marina and Sibuti Coral Reefs National Park (May 13-16), and ‘Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri’ with Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at MCC headquarters (May 14).

Other programmes include a blood donation drive by Malaysia Red Crescent Society (May 15), a fishing competition at MGP Pond Sarawak (May 15), “Earth Day Celebration 2022” at Eastwood Valley Hotel Miri (May 15), UPSR, SPM and STPM excellence award presentation to Dayak students in Bintang Megamall’s new wing (May 15), Miri City Day (May 20), a forum with badminton legends at Imperial Hotel Miri (May 20), Dayak Traditional King and Queen Finale Competition at Meritz Hotel (May 21), Traditional Costume showcase at MCC headquarters (May 22), pickleball introduction at MCC headquarter (May 27-28), badminton tournament at Tung Sports Miri (May 27-29), and monthly pool single elimination tournament at David’s Pool Miri (May 28). — DayakDaily
