KUCHING, Dec 28: Newly elected Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan has expressed hope and determination to bring about better Internet connectivity to approximately 154 longhouses in his constituency.

In saying this, he pointed out that efforts like working closely with Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and other relevant authorities will be undertaken to expedite better coverage.

He said one of the frequently highlighted issues by the local community in his constituency is the need for better Internet connectivity.

“We cannot deny that connectivity has become a necessity in the people’s lives especially when it comes to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) process.

“Thus, I am looking into how to improve Internet connectivity in my constituency and I hope that the relevant authorities will step in to work together for this. This is so that the local community in my constituency will be able to actively participate in the digital economy,” he said.

He said this after a courtesy visit to SMA General Manager Dr Zaidi Razak at Bangunan Yayasan Sarawak today.

Meanwhile, Zaidi thanked Lidam and his entourage for the courtesy visit as it will sow the seeds for seamless communication between SMA and the elected representative.

He stated that such engagement provides SMA with better insights on what is needed by local communities.

“The engagement session is a very good initiative as valuable information obtained from the local community can be shared with SMA directly,” he said.

At the same time, Zaidi hoped other elected representatives will initiate similar engagement session with SMA for the people’s benefits. — DayakDaily
