SONG, Oct 29: An association has been formed here to look after the plight and welfare of retirees.

A total of 30 retired veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) converged at a meeting last night to form the association.

They named the association the Katibas Veteran Care Association (PPPRK).

According to the association’s spokesperson Pw1(B) Sai Malaka, the association was formed in response to the current challenges that are greatly affecting retired ex-soldiers, police and local government employees and to act as a bridge of communication to help manage the welfare and various problems that are often faced by those who have been categorized as senior citizens.

“The main objective of the association is to get involved in the economic welfare of members as well as to provide job opportunities to members according to their skills and fitness abilities that are offered in the local area after retirement.

“It also plays a role in actively involving association members in matters of local economic development and opportunities,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Sai called on and welcomed all army veterans and retirees, police retirees, government retirees and the community of DUN N62 Katibas in Song district to join the association to be active together and work together to fight for equal rights and welfare as local citizens to develop the area with a shared spirit.

At the meeting, seven members were appointed into the association’s Sponsor Committee to oversee the association’s registration with the Registrar of Societies.

They included association chairman Pw2 (B) Jambai Naning, Pw1 (B) Michael Collin Ekeh (Secretary), Ssjn (B) Richard Bansa (Treasurer), Pw1 (B) Sai Malaka (Explanation), Pw2 (B) Thomas Wak (Welfare), Ssjn (B) Ensiriban Enteba (Economy) and Sgt Philip Demong (Culture).
