KUCHING, Oct 25: Minister of Youth and Sports Sarawak Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah lauds the initiative taken by Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd for sponsoring the Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) in their development of badminton talent in the State.

Karim, who is also Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Sarawak, said it was indeed a good initiative because the Sarawak State Government had encouraged the corporate sector to play their part in the development of the State and the wellbeing of its local people.

“The support and sponsorship given by Press Metal group to Sarawak Badminton Association is much welcomed and their kind gesture can be seen as the contribution towards the development of our badminton fraternity.

“The kind support by Press Metal will give Sarawak’s badminton the much-needed boost especially to our local players and coaches in their training and preparations for the forthcoming events,” he said during a hybrid sponsorship handing over ceremony by Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd to SBA, held in Baitul Makmur II building in Petra Jaya, today.

Earlier on, SBA president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Dato Husain also expressed his gratitude to Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd for their generosity and sponsorship to the association for the next 5 years.

He noted that Press Metal sponsorship to the association is worth RM1 million per annum, that’s a total of RM5 million for the next five years, which will bring benefits to the Sarawak badminton fraternity especially in terms of talent development.

“This is the second sponsorship which the association had received so far. In August last year, we had also received the sponsorship from Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad or CMSB which is worth RM120,000 per annum until the year 2025 with total value of RM600,000.

“It goes without saying that Sarawak Badminton Association is now able to implement its development strategies and programmes which will uplift the standards of badminton in our State,” he said. — DayakDaily.
