SBA Junior Championship: Kelab Badminton Cemerlang grabs Abang Jo Cup, Sarawak Energy Recreation Club wins Juma’ani Cup

KUCHING, Aug 6: Kuching’s Kelab Badminton Cemerlang (KBC) and Sarawak Energy Recreation Club (SERC) have won the Abang Jo Cup and Juma’ani Cup respectivel at the second edition of Sarawak Badminton Association’s (SBA) Junior Championship today.

Both trophies were named after Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

For winning the Abang Jo Cup, KBC brought home a cash prize of RM10,000 after defeating Pusat Latihan Badminton Miri (PLBM) with a score 3-0, leaving the latter to finish with RM6,000.

In joint third places were Piasau Badminton Club Miri and SERC, each securing RM2,000.

As for the Juma’ani Cup, SERC bagged the RM5,000 cash prize after winning 2-1 against KBC, who secured RM3,000.

The joint third places were won by World Chinese Badminton Federation (WCBF) Sibu and Lopeng Badminton Club with each bringing home RM2,000.

Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah presented the prizes including medals to the winning teams at the closing ceremony held at SBA Badminton Hall in Jalan Lapangan Terbang here.

Amongst those present were SBA president Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain and SBA secretary Ting Ching Zung.

The three-day event which commenced on Aug 4, saw the participation of over 100 shuttlers from Sarawak, Sabah, Peninsular Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.

It was organised by SBA in collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad as the sponsor and with the support of Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED). — DayakDaily
