Undertaken by the Sarawak government through the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, the project is a continuation of the earlier Kapit Waterfront Phase 1 and forms part of the broader effort to modernise the town’s riverside infrastructure.

According to a post shared on its social media, JKR Sarawak said the project scope includes riverbank and slope stabilisation to prevent erosion and ensure public safety, while also upgrading the area into a vibrant social and recreational hub.

“This is not just a physical project, it embodies the ‘segulai sejalai’ work culture, where collaboration across all levels, from planners and implementers to the local community, has led to an excellent outcome,” the department added.

The upgraded waterfront includes key features such as a reinforced riverbank and slope structure, longboat mooring facilities, pedestrian walkways, an amphitheatre, shaded roofing, landscaping works, and modern electrical infrastructure.

JKR Sarawak emphasised that these elements are designed not only to beautify the town but also to open up new opportunities for cultural, recreational, and economic activities.

With its strategic location and improved amenities, the Kapit Waterfront is expected to host a variety of events such as speedboat races, rafting, and water sports, potentially revitalising local tourism and boosting community engagement.
