KUCHING, Aug 1: Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi welcomes the announcement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the construction of a road from Nanga Serau in Song to Nanga Seranau in Kapit under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

In a statement, he expressed his gratitude to the prime minister and said that the project is part of the initiative to construct and upgrade 2,800 kilometres of rural roads nationwide during the 13MP from 2026 to 2030.

Nanta, who is also the federal Works Minister, said that once completed, the road will connect the area on the upper left bank of the Rajang River, specifically from the bridge that will be built across the Rajang River near Nanga Yong, directly to the Kapit town area by land.

“This is welcome news for the hundreds of longhouse families in the area who have long relied on river routes for travel, especially after the express boat services were discontinued following the establishment of the road from Sibu to Kapit.

“As the elected representative for Kapit, I fully understand the hardship and challenges faced by the residents over the years. Therefore, this announcement not only brings new hope but also inspires renewed determination to continue fighting for greater development and fair access for Sarawak’s interior regions,” he said.

Anwar made the 13MP announcement on Thursday (July 31), which he described as part of the government’s commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure and transport connectivity. — DayakDaily
