KUCHING, Sept 15: A total of RM448,000 has been channelled to 45 Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) in Song, with an additional RM52,500 allocated as incentives for 105 local students pursuing higher education.
Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who officiated at the cheque and student incentive handover ceremony yesterday (Sept 14) together with Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan, said the contribution ensures no longhouse is left out.
“Each longhouse received RM500 per door. The distribution covered RM174,500 for areas under Penghulu Vincent Jugah and RM273,500 for areas under Penghulu Sumpeng Jinggai,” Nanta shared in a Facebook post.
Nanta, who is the Kapit MP, added that each student from Song who furthered their studies at institutions of higher learning received RM500, totalling RM52,500. Several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the district also benefitted from the aid.
Nanta reminded that all financial assistance must be managed prudently and transparently for the benefit of the community, with JKKKs required to submit expenditure reports to ensure proper governance.
At the same time, he called on the younger generation to seize the opportunities provided under the Sarawak government’s new policy which will fully fund the education of Sarawakian students at local universities starting next year.
On development, Nanta revealed that the Ulu Katibas Bridge project at Sungai Bangkit, valued at RM35 million, has already been tendered, while a RM70 million, 7km road construction project will be tendered soon.
“I urge landowners to give their full cooperation so these projects can be implemented smoothly for the wellbeing of the people,” he said.
Also present were his political secretary Ambrose Abong Bugek and the Premier’s political secretary Watson Awan. – DayakDaily
