Kapit boat tragedy: Body found on March 9 identified as third victim, one still missing

SIBU, March 10: The body discovered in Batang Lebaan River here around 12pm yesterday (March 9) was identified as the third victim of the recent Kapit boat tragedy.

The deceased was identified as Emerson John James Naim, 47.


According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body was sent to Sibu Hospital for identification process after the discovery.

“He was pronounced dead, and his body was identified by his family members around 12pm today at Sibu Hospital,” the report said.

In the incident around 5pm on Thursday (March 7), five men, including two policemen, were on their way to Nanga Tulie Camp carrying explosives on a 30-horsepower (HP) fibre boat.

Only one man, identified as Moses Ngui, 47, was rescued by the public after the boat capsized and sank in Batang Balleh.

The first body, identified as the boat’s operator, Jack Balan, 45, was found by the members of the public in Batang Rajang near Lanang Bridge around 10am yesterday.

The second body belonging to Sergeant Jonathan Lambert, 51, was found floating in front of the Kapit express boat terminal at around 4pm on the same day.

This was followed by the discovery of Emerson’s body as the third victim.

As of 2pm today, there is only one remaining victim, identified as Constable Iskandar Ibrahim, 28, who has yet to be found. — DayakDaily
