KUCHING, March 10: Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, has stated that the Batu Kawa 2 bridge is one of the new development projects planned by the Sarawak government for the Batu Kawa state constituency.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report yesterday (March 9), Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, pointed out that the construction of the Batu Kawa 2 bridge would reduce the problem of traffic congestion.

He also disclosed that plans are underway to build affordable housing at Kampung Segedup.

The minister mentioned these after officiating at the earth-breaking ceremony for the extension building of St Mark’s Church in Batu Kawah yesterday on church grounds here.

Dr Sim also disclosed that the St Mark’s Church extension project is projected to cost RM20 million.

He further highlighted that the church is raising funds for the said extension through charity events, public contributions, and financial support from the Sarawak government via the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

The Batu Kawah assemblyman said that Unifor is consistently involved in assisting other religions with the repair and refurbishment of their places of worship.

Also present were Catholic Archbishop of Kuching Simon Poh, Archbishop Emeritus John Ha, representatives of Unifor, and representatives of the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS). — DayakDaily
