Kanowit-Song-Kapit road unsafe for use during monsoon season

The road has become slippery and dangerous to travel on.

KAPIT, Nov 25: In view of the school holidays and arrival of the monsoon season, as well as based on reports from residents that are traveling to and from Kapit town by road or offroad, conditions of the Kanowit-Song-Kapit road has deteriorated further, posing risks to travelers.

According to a statement from Paren Nyawi, special assistant to Sibu MP Oscar Ling, information obtained from social media channels have indicated that access along the offroad track which passes through the Kanowit-Song-Kapit road has been cut off by overflowing water, causing vehicles to be stranded.

Additionally, river waters have spilled over and exceeded the danger level along the Batang Rajang.


The DAP Kapit coordinator urged the Sarawak Rivers Board to carry out more frequent monitoring.

“This is because during the the school holidays, traveling by express boat will be more congested than normal and the Kapit-Sibu offroad track will be quite dangerous because of the slippery conditions.

“Thus, I urge the government to fulfil its promise of maintaining the Kanowit-Song offroad as has been made to the rakyat.” — DayakDaily
