Kanowit flooding: 28 evacuated from Nanga Tada Resettlement Scheme to temporary shelter

SIBU, June 3: A total of 28 flood victims from the Nanga Tada Resettlement Scheme in Kanowit here were transferred to the temporary evacuation centre at Dewan Penghulu Seribu Nanga Tada after their homes were flooded this morning.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received notification of the incident at 8.16am, prompting the dispatch of firefighters from the Kanowit fire station to the location.

“Water rose approximately one foot above the floor level in a two-story house, which consisted of three separate houses on the same floor,” it said.

The statement added that as the water has not fully receded and rain is still falling, the temporary evacuation centre of Dewan Penghulu Seribu Nanga Tada was approved, which opened at 10.30am.

The 28 flood victims consist of 15 men, eight women, three boys, and two girls.

The heads of households who will relocate are Jembun Dana, Benang Sangai, Sylvester Kunsil Sangai, Pauline Benang, and Anthony Tinggi. — DayakDaily
